Inside The Old Walls

Kaleiçi means "inside the castle", and the old town still feels enclosed: old walls, a tangle of lanes, and Ottoman-era houses on every corner. Hadrian's Gate, the Roman triumphal arch on Atatürk Caddesi, is the best-known way in. From there Hesapçı Sokak, the main lane, runs down through the quarter towards the sea, with Uzunçarşı Sokak and dozens of smaller alleys branching off it. The Clock Tower (Saat Kulesi) stands at the northern edge, near the old bazaar, and the Broken Minaret (Kesik Minare) rises in the middle of the Kılınçarslan neighbourhood. At the bottom of the slope lies the old harbour, now a marina for yachts and boats, with little Mermerli Beach tucked beside it. Everything inside the walls is walkable, which is the whole point of staying here.

Boutique Hotels In Ottoman Houses

Big resort hotels do not exist inside Kaleiçi. Instead you will find small hotels and guesthouses in restored houses, some with a garden or courtyard, many with only a handful of rooms. Tuvana Hotel on Karanlık Sokak, Alp Paşa Hotel on Hesapçı Sokak, Mediterra Art Hotel on Zafer Sokak and Doğan Hotel on Mermerli Banyo Sokak are typical examples, along with harbour-side Adalya Port Hotel on İskele Caddesi. Several are adults-only, such as Route Hotel Kaleici, Argos Hotel and White Garden Hotel. Some old-town hotels close for part of the winter, while others, Tuvana among them, stay open all year, so check the dates if you travel off season. Many names here are similar (Kaleiçi Hotel and Kaleiçi Butik Otel are two different places), so always book with the full name and street.

The City Centre Outside The Walls

Step out of Hadrian's Gate and you are in ordinary, busy Antalya. Atatürk Caddesi runs past the gate, and Kazım Özalp Caddesi, close to the Clock Tower and the old bazaar, has city hotels such as Best Western Plus Khan Hotel. To the south, the Gençlik district follows the coast past Karaalioğlu Park; this is where Divan Talya reopened in 2026 on the site of Antalya's first 5-star hotel, rebuilt from scratch on Fevzi Çakmak Caddesi. North of the old town, Anafartalar Caddesi and Adnan Menderes Bulvarı have modern city hotels, including Old Town Point Hotel & Spa and DoubleTree by Hilton Antalya City Centre. These hotels are a short walk or taxi ride from Kaleiçi, and a car can pull up at the door.

Arriving, Walking And Leaving

Plan your arrival around the lanes. Kaleiçi's streets are narrow and traffic inside the walls is restricted, so a wheeled suitcase that is fine in an airport can be hard work on the last stretch; packing lighter, or asking the hotel to meet you, makes the first ten minutes easier. When you book, give us the hotel's exact name and street (Hesapçı Sokak, Hıdırlık Sokak, Mermerli Sokak and so on), because several streets hold more than one small hotel. For the return, allow about 25 minutes of driving to Antalya Airport plus extra for city traffic, then the usual time for check-in. Families can ask for free child seats when booking. And if you are moving on to a beach resort along the coast after a few nights in the old town, a private transfer from your Kaleiçi hotel can be booked the same way.

A Short City Run From Antalya Airport

Antalya Airport (AYT) is the airport for Kaleiçi and the city centre: 18 km by road, about 25 minutes when the streets are clear, though city traffic at busy hours can add time. Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport (GZP) is 178 km away, close to two and a half hours, so it only makes sense if your flight happens to land there. In arrivals your driver waits with a sign showing your name, and the vehicle is reserved for your party alone, with no stops for other passengers. Flights are tracked, so an early or late landing is not a problem. The one thing that is different here is the last few metres. Kaleiçi's lanes were laid out long before cars, traffic inside the walls is restricted, and travel guides warn that finding some old-town hotels by car is close to impossible. Your driver takes you as close to your hotel as the streets allow; for some boutique hotels that means a short walk at the end, so it helps to tell the hotel your arrival time and ask whether staff can help with luggage. Hotels outside the walls, on the main city streets, are a normal kerbside drop-off.
